Amputation of all toes without loss of the metatarsal bones.
To support a 30 percent rating under diagnostic code 5170, the evidence needs to show that you have had all toes amputated without metatarsal loss, or that you have had a transmetatarsal amputation with up to half of metatarsal loss. Operative reports or surgical records documenting the amputation procedure and the level of tissue removed are central to establishing this. Post-surgical or follow-up medical records that confirm the current anatomical state of the foot also help. A VA examination report that describes the residual limb, confirms the absence of remaining toes, and notes whether metatarsal bone was preserved or lost (and how much) directly addresses the rating criteria. Statements from you describing how the amputation affects walking, balance, standing, and daily activities can round out the picture of your overall condition.
