Severe vision loss in one eye, with only the ability to detect light.
Because the rating under this code depends on the vision in your other eye, the most important evidence is a formal measurement of visual acuity in that eye. Medical records from an ophthalmologist or optometrist showing corrected distance visual acuity — the standard Snellen fraction such as 20/40 or 20/200 — directly correspond to the rating levels above. VA examination findings that document the measurement in both eyes are central to establishing where your rating falls.
For the eye with no more than light perception, records confirming that finding — such as clinical notes or VA examination results stating that vision is limited to light perception or less — establish the baseline for this diagnostic code. If the vision in your other eye has changed over time, records showing that progression can affect which rating level applies. Statements from you or others about how your combined vision affects your daily activities and work may provide helpful context alongside the clinical measurements.
