Chronic inflammation of the nasal mucous membranes causing congestion and runny nose
To support a 30% rating, medical records or examination findings that document the presence of nasal polyps are central. A nasal endoscopy report or imaging that confirms polyps, combined with a diagnosis of allergic or vasomotor rhinitis, would directly address that criterion.
To support a 10% rating, records need to show the degree of nasal obstruction. Findings from a VA or private examination measuring airflow, nasal endoscopy notes, or imaging that demonstrates greater than 50-percent blockage in both nasal passages — or complete blockage on one side — would speak to that level. Statements from you describing chronic congestion, difficulty breathing through your nose, or how those symptoms affect your sleep, work, or daily activities can help a clinician document the severity, but the measured obstruction itself is what the rating criteria require.
