6021
§ 4.79 Schedule of ratings—eye.

Entropion (inward-turning eyelid)

An eyelid that turns inward, causing the lashes to rub against the eye.

What the rating means

VA rates entropion under Diagnostic Code 6021. The rating depends on whether one or both eyes are affected. If entropion affects both eyes, the rating is 20%. If only one eye is affected, the rating is 10%. The regulation does not set out separate levels based on severity of symptoms — the only distinction is whether the condition is unilateral (one eye) or bilateral (both eyes).

Evidence that helps

Medical records that confirm a diagnosis of entropion in one or both eyes are the foundation of a claim under this code. An eye examination finding that documents which eye or eyes are affected is the key piece of evidence, because the rating turns entirely on whether the condition is unilateral or bilateral. Operative reports or treatment records showing procedures performed on one or both eyes can also help establish this. Statements from you or people who know you may support the overall record but cannot by themselves confirm the clinical finding. Because the rating does not vary by severity, records showing how entropion affects your vision or daily life do not change the percentage under this code, though they may be relevant to other parts of your claim.

Secondary conditions

Conditions that are often caused or made worse by this one. If you have any of these, they may be claimable as secondary service connection.
