Hardening of the kidney due to infiltration by fibrous connective tissue (fibrosis), usually caused by renovascular diseases or chronic hypertension. Nephrosclerosis leads to renal ischemia.
Because rating depends on which symptoms predominate, the most useful evidence is whatever documents those predominant symptoms clearly. For renal dysfunction, VA looks for lab results showing GFR measurements — or estimated GFR or creatinine-based approximations calculated by a medical professional — recorded over at least three consecutive months within the past 12 months. Records showing urine test results with RBC casts, WBC casts, or granular casts, albumin-to-creatinine ratio results, dialysis records, or documentation of kidney transplant eligibility all directly support specific rating levels. For hypertension or heart disease as the predominant symptom, cardiovascular exam findings and treatment records are key. Statements from you or people who know you describing how symptoms affect your daily activities and work can help show which condition is predominant and how severely it affects your functioning.
