Cancer of blood-forming tissues (leukemia) – acute or chronic (various cell types)
During the active or treatment phase, medical records confirming a leukemia diagnosis and showing ongoing disease or current treatment — such as oncology notes, pathology reports, lab results, or treatment records — directly support the 100 percent rating. After treatment ends, records that document the date treatment stopped are important because they establish when the six-month continuation period begins. At the mandatory VA examination six months after treatment ends, findings about whether the disease has recurred and whether any symptoms or complications remain will determine what happens next. If residuals are present — such as anemia, fatigue, neuropathy, or organ damage — medical records and exam findings that describe those specific conditions support rating under the appropriate diagnostic code for each residual. Your own statements, and statements from people who know you, describing how ongoing symptoms affect your work and daily activities can also help show the severity of any residuals.
