5107
§ 4.71a Schedule of ratings—musculoskeletal system.

Loss of both feet

Anatomical loss of both feet.

What the rating means

Anatomical loss of both feet is rated under diagnostic code 5107. There is one rating level: 100%. VA assigns this rating when both feet have been amputated — meaning the physical loss of both feet, not simply the loss of their use.

Because this is a loss of multiple extremities, VA also looks at whether you qualify for special monthly compensation under 38 CFR 3.350. The table in the rating schedule cross-references anatomical loss or loss of use below the knee with various combinations of other limb losses, each carrying a specific compensation code and CFR citation. If your situation involves losses of other limbs in addition to both feet, those combinations are evaluated under that table rather than under this diagnostic code alone.

Evidence that helps

To support a 100% rating under diagnostic code 5107, the evidence needs to show the anatomical loss — the actual amputation — of both feet. Surgical or operative reports documenting the amputation procedures are central to this. Pathology reports, discharge summaries, and post-surgical medical records that confirm the amputations have occurred also help establish this fact.

A VA or private medical examination that documents the physical absence of both feet provides strong direct evidence. Imaging records or prosthetic fitting records can further confirm that the amputations took place. Because the only rating available is 100%, the key question the evidence needs to answer is whether both feet are physically absent. Statements from you or those who know you describing the physical reality of your condition can support what the medical records show, though the core finding rests on documented medical confirmation of both amputations.
