6029
§ 4.79 Schedule of ratings—eye.

Missing or dislocated eye lens

Absence of the eye's natural lens or displacement of the lens from its normal position.

What the rating means

VA rates aphakia or dislocation of the crystalline lens under diagnostic code 6029. The rating works in two steps. First, VA measures the actual visual impairment caused by the condition, using the standard vision-impairment tables in the rating schedule. Second, VA moves that result up one step higher than it would otherwise be. This elevation applies whether only one eye is affected (unilateral) or both eyes are affected (bilateral). No matter what the vision measurements show, the rating will never fall below 30%. That floor applies to both unilateral and bilateral cases.

Evidence that helps

Because the rating is built on measured visual impairment, the most important evidence is a complete eye examination that records your best-corrected visual acuity and any visual field loss in the affected eye or eyes. Records confirming the diagnosis — such as surgical notes, operative reports, or imaging showing an absent or dislocated lens — establish that diagnostic code 6029 applies rather than a plain vision code. If your vision fluctuates or worsens over time, updated eye examination findings help show the current level of impairment. Statements from you or people who know you about how reduced vision affects your work, reading, driving, or daily tasks can support the overall picture of functional loss that the measured acuity reflects.

Secondary conditions

Conditions that are often caused or made worse by this one. If you have any of these, they may be claimable as secondary service connection.
