Reduced bone density (fragile bones) potentially due to malnutrition and captivity stress
Because the rating follows the residual condition rather than osteoporosis itself, useful evidence depends on which residuals you have. If a joint was surgically replaced, records showing the implantation date, surgical reports, and discharge summaries help establish the timeline for post-surgical rating periods. For joint or bone residuals rated on range of motion, examination findings that measure degrees of movement or document ankylosis are directly relevant. Imaging such as X-rays or bone scans can document fractures, bone loss, or hardware placement. If ankylosis of a finger or thumb is involved, examination findings measuring the gap between fingertips and the palm — or between the thumb pad and fingers — matter because the regulation uses a two-inch threshold to distinguish favorable from unfavorable ankylosis. Statements from you or others describing how residual symptoms affect physical tasks at work or at home can support the overall picture of functional loss.
