Narrowing or blockage of arteries in the limbs that may cause pain, numbness, or poor circulation.
Because every rating level is defined by specific numerical thresholds, the most important evidence is objective vascular test results. An ABI at or below 0.39 supports the 100% level; 0.40–0.53 supports 60%; 0.54–0.66 supports 40%; and 0.67–0.79 supports 20%. The same step-down logic applies to ankle pressure, toe pressure, and transcutaneous oxygen tension results at corresponding ranges. Records showing these measurements, such as vascular laboratory reports or Doppler studies, directly tie your condition to a rating level. If you have had aortic or large arterial bypass surgery or an arterial graft, surgical and operative records documenting that procedure are relevant, since residuals are rated under this code. Because each limb is rated separately, test results for every affected extremity matter. Statements from your treating providers explaining why a particular test better reflects your disease severity can also be relevant if ABI alone does not capture the full picture, as the regulation allows an examiner to call for additional testing in those situations.
