§ 4.116 Schedule of ratings—gynecological conditions and disorders of the breast.

Removal of uterus and both ovaries

Complete surgical removal of the uterus and both ovaries.

What the rating means

VA rates the complete removal of the uterus and both ovaries under Diagnostic Code 7617. There are two possible ratings. For the first three months after the surgery, VA assigns a 100% rating. After those three months have passed, the rating drops to 50%. The regulation does not provide additional rating levels based on symptoms or test results beyond this time-based structure.

Because this condition involves the loss of creative organs, VA may also consider whether you qualify for Special Monthly Compensation under 38 CFR § 3.350. That is a separate benefit on top of the disability rating. Natural menopause, primary amenorrhea, and pregnancy and childbirth are not treated as disabilities for rating purposes, though chronic residuals of medical or surgical complications of pregnancy may be considered.

Evidence that helps

To support the 100% rating in the first three months after surgery, evidence should show the date of the operation and confirm that both the uterus and both ovaries were completely removed. An operative report or surgical pathology report from the hospital record is the most direct way to establish this.

To support the ongoing 50% rating after the three-month period, the same surgical records remain important because they confirm the permanent nature of the removal. Medical records documenting follow-up care after the procedure can also help show continuity. If you are seeking Special Monthly Compensation related to loss of a creative organ, your claim file should contain records that clearly identify the anatomical loss, as VA will review those separately under 38 CFR § 3.350.

Secondary conditions

Conditions that are often caused or made worse by this one. If you have any of these, they may be claimable as secondary service connection.
