An inflammatory disease following streptococcal infection that may affect the heart, joints, and nervous system.
During the active phase, medical records documenting a current diagnosis and ongoing disease activity support a 100 percent rating. Once the disease has resolved, evidence that helps most is documentation of lasting damage caused by the infection. For heart involvement, this could include cardiology records, echocardiogram results, electrocardiograms, or records of valve damage or heart failure. For damage to other body systems, records from the relevant specialist and diagnostic test results showing the nature and severity of the impairment are key. Statements from you or people who know you describing how residual symptoms affect your work, daily activities, and physical functioning can also help show the severity of any lasting disability that is being rated under the appropriate body system.
Conditions that are often caused or made worse by this one. If you have any of these, they may be claimable as secondary service connection.
