Chronic scar tissue resulting from vesicant (mustard gas) burns on skin
Because ratings under diagnostic code 7805 depend on what other diagnostic codes apply, the evidence that helps most is whatever documents the specific disabling effects of your scars that were not already rated.
For disfigurement of the head, face, or neck under diagnostic code 7800, useful evidence includes medical records or exam findings that document visible or palpable tissue loss, the number of facial features affected, and the degree of distortion or asymmetry. Findings relevant to the eight characteristics include measurements of scar length and width, examiner notes on whether the scar surface is elevated or depressed, whether it is adherent to underlying tissue, and measurements of any area where skin pigmentation, texture, softness, or underlying soft tissue is affected. The regulation also states that unretouched color photographs are taken into consideration, so photographs documenting the appearance of your scars can be meaningful evidence.
For disabling effects beyond disfigurement, such as pain, instability, or nerve and muscle injury linked to a scar, medical records and statements describing how those effects limit your work and daily activities can help show what additional codes apply.
