7112
§ 4.104 Schedule of ratings—cardiovascular system.

Small artery aneurysm

A bulge in the wall of a small artery that may rupture or block blood flow.

What the rating means

VA rates a small artery aneurysm under diagnostic code 7112. If you have no symptoms, the rating is 0%. If you do have symptoms, VA does not rate the aneurysm itself at that point — instead, it evaluates the condition according to the body system that the aneurysm is affecting. After surgery, VA follows the same approach: rather than rating the aneurysm directly, it rates any residual effects under whichever body system those residuals involve. This means the percentage you could receive depends entirely on how the aneurysm, or the results of treating it, affects a specific part of your body, and that body system's own rating criteria would govern the outcome.

Evidence that helps

For a 0% rating, medical records showing no symptoms attributable to the aneurysm would be relevant. If the aneurysm is symptomatic, the evidence that matters shifts to whichever body system is being affected, so records documenting the nature, frequency, and severity of those symptoms become central. If you had surgery, post-operative records showing any lasting effects — and which body system those effects involve — are what VA would look at. Statements from you or people who know you describing how symptoms affect your work or daily activities can support the picture your medical records show, but those statements would need to connect to the criteria of the applicable body system, not to the aneurysm rating itself.

Secondary conditions

Conditions that are often caused or made worse by this one. If you have any of these, they may be claimable as secondary service connection.
