An autoimmune disease affecting multiple organs and systems throughout the body.
To support a 100% rating, medical records should document frequent acute flares causing severe decline in your overall health, along with physician notes describing the intensity and frequency of those episodes. Rheumatology or specialty clinic notes that describe hospitalization, significant functional loss, or systemic organ involvement during flares are particularly relevant.
For a 60% rating, records should show that flares lasted at least a week at a time and happened two or three times in a year. Dated treatment notes, lab results drawn during active flares, and medication changes tied to specific episodes can all help establish this pattern.
For a 10% rating, records showing at least one flare in the past year or two, or documented symptoms during that period, support this level. If VA rates your residuals separately — such as lupus nephritis or lupus-related skin changes — records from each affected body system become relevant. Your own statements describing how flares affect your ability to work or carry out daily activities can help show frequency and severity at any level.
