Alabama License Fee and Property Tax Exemption for Vehicles Paid for by a VA Grant

Full exemption from vehicle license fees and property taxes

If the VA paid for all or part of your vehicle to accommodate a disability, that vehicle is exempt from all Alabama license fees and property taxes. The vehicle has to be for your own private use.

How to apply

Apply through the county office of the Alabama Department of Revenue where the vehicle is located.

What you'll need

Your VA documentation showing the VA paid toward the vehicle, and proof of your wartime disability.

Eligibility

  • You are an Alabama resident
  • You were disabled in a U.S. war or conflict, or during a period of hostilities against a foreign country
  • The VA paid for all or part of the vehicle to accommodate your disability
  • The vehicle is used only for your private use
