Alaska Commercial Driver License Road Skills Test Waiver

Road skills test and Entry Level Driver Training waived

Alaska waives the road skills test and Entry Level Driver Training for a commercial driver license if your military job involved driving a military vehicle like the class of commercial vehicle you are applying for. The CDL knowledge tests cannot be waived, and you cannot transfer school bus or passenger endorsements.

How to apply

Complete the Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles application for a military skills test waiver. Page two has to be signed by your commanding officer. The DMV commercial driver license page explains the rest of the process.

What you'll need

The waiver application signed by your commanding officer, and documentation that you are currently licensed on, or were employed within the last year in, a military position operating that class of vehicle.

Eligibility

  • You are currently licensed on, or were employed within the last year in, a military position requiring operation of a military motor vehicle like the commercial class you are applying for
  • You have not held more than one license, other than a military license, in the past two years
  • You have not had a license suspended, revoked or cancelled in the past two years
  • You have no disqualifying convictions and no more than one serious traffic violation conviction as listed on the application
  • You have no conviction for a traffic control violation resulting from an accident and no record of an at-fault accident
