The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation offers home financing at lower interest rates through its Veterans Mortgage Program. Loans are generally processed quickly, need little or no down payment, and often carry a lower interest rate. You can combine the State Veterans Interest Rate Preference with most Alaska single-family loan programs to get a 1 percent interest rate reduction on the first $50,000 of the loan. Your family income cannot be above the AHFC state veterans preference income limits.

Contact an AHFC approved lender to apply. AHFC does not take applications directly.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or discharge paperwork showing at least 90 days of active duty other than for training and a discharge other than dishonorable, or proof of five years of reserve component service with an honorable discharge, or proof you are still serving after completing your initial obligation, or your marriage and casualty documentation if you are a surviving spouse. You also need your income documentation.

Eligibility

  • Your family income is at or below the AHFC state veterans preference income limits
  • You have completed your initial military obligation and are still serving, or you served at least 90 days of active duty other than for training and received a discharge other than dishonorable, or you are a former reserve component member who served at least five years and was honorably discharged, or you are the surviving spouse of an eligible veteran
