Affordable long-term care at the Palmer home, 250 E. Fireweed Avenue

The Alaska Veterans and Pioneers Home in Palmer offers affordable long-term care in a home-like setting. Services include meal preparation, dietary assessment and medically prescribed diets, laundry and housekeeping, emergency call systems, help with daily activities such as eating, bathing and dressing, help with medications, health assessment, nursing services, recreational programs, social work services, opportunities for spiritual devotion, care during illness that does not need hospitalisation, care for residents with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia, and pharmacy services.

Submit the Alaska Pioneer Homes waitlist application online, or send a hardcopy active or inactive waitlist application together with the Veterans’ Addendum to the Division of Alaska Pioneer Homes, PO Box 110690, Juneau AK 99811-0690, or fax 907-465-4108. Applying puts you on a waitlist: there is no cost to apply, no obligation to move in, and no time limit on staying on the list. What you'll need

Your discharge paperwork showing service in the U.S. Armed Forces, the Alaska National Guard or the Alaska Territorial Guard with a discharge other than dishonorable, proof you have lived in Alaska for one continuous year, and documentation that you need nursing care. Hardcopy applicants also need the Veterans’ Addendum.

Eligibility

  • You have been an Alaska resident for one continuous year before applying
  • You are 60 years old or older
  • You require nursing care
  • You served in the U.S. Armed Forces, the Alaska National Guard or the Alaska Territorial Guard and received a discharge other than dishonorable
