In-state tuition rates without waiting out a residency period

Arizona grants you immediate residency for tuition purposes, so you pay in-state rates at Arizona public schools while using VA education benefits. It covers veterans and their spouses and dependents.

How to apply

Tell the admissions or veterans services office at the Arizona school you are attending that you are claiming in-state status under this provision, and give them your discharge paperwork and VA education benefit information.

What you'll need

The veteran’s DD214 showing a discharge within the last 36 months from at least 90 days of active duty, your VA education benefit paperwork, proof you live in Arizona, and one piece of evidence that you have made Arizona your home.

Eligibility

  • You are a veteran, or the spouse or dependent of a veteran
  • The veteran was discharged within the last 36 months from a period of active duty service of 90 days or longer
  • You are using VA education benefits under Chapter 30, 31, 33 or 35
  • You live in Arizona
  • You have done at least one of the following: registered to vote in Arizona, obtained an Arizona driver license, registered a motor vehicle in Arizona, taken work in Arizona, moved your main banking to Arizona, changed your permanent address on your records, or gathered other materials proving Arizona domicile
