Arizona Tuition Waiver at Public Educational Institutions for Service Members, Veterans and Dependents

Tuition waived for the credits required for a bachelor’s degree

Arizona waives tuition at its public community colleges and universities for eligible service members, veterans and family members. The waiver covers the number of credits your bachelor’s degree requires, and you can use federal education benefits at the same time.

How to apply

Submit the ADVS Tuition Waiver and Verification Form with the documentation listed on it, by mail to the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, 3839 N 3rd Street, Suite 209, Phoenix, AZ 85012-1570, or by email to benefits@azdvs.gov. For help, email benefits@azdvs.gov or call 602-255-3373.

What you'll need

The completed verification form plus the supporting documents it lists, which depend on your path to eligibility: casualty documentation for a surviving spouse or child, Purple Heart award documentation, a VA rating letter, or Arizona National Guard medical discharge paperwork.

Eligibility

  • You are one of the following: the unremarried surviving spouse or a child under 30 of a service member who was an Arizona resident or stationed in Arizona and was killed in the line of duty or died of line-of-duty injuries; an Arizona National Guard member awarded the Purple Heart after September 11, 2001; a U.S. Armed Forces member who was an Arizona resident or stationed in Arizona when awarded the Purple Heart and has a VA disability rating of 50 percent or more; or an Arizona National Guard member medically discharged for a service-connected injury or disability
  • You are enrolled at an Arizona community college or public university
