Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemeteries

No cost burial for veterans; one-time $780 fee for a spouse or dependent

Arizona runs veterans’ memorial cemeteries at Sierra Vista, Bellemont near Camp Navajo, and Marana. Burial includes the plot, opening and closing the grave, a concrete liner for casket burials, a government marker and perpetual care, and columbaria niches and in-ground burial of cremated remains are available. There is no charge to bury a veteran; burial of a spouse or dependent costs a one-time $780. Spaces are assigned at the time of need and cannot be reserved in advance.

How to apply

Complete the AVMC pre-registration form to establish eligibility before there is a need, and mail, fax or email it with your documentation to Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldiers Trail, Sierra Vista, AZ 85650, email SAVMC@AZDVS.GOV, phone 520-458-7144, fax 520-458-7147.

What you'll need

The pre-registration form plus the documents it lists, generally your DD214 or other discharge paperwork, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for family members.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or Reserves and qualified for military retired pay or would have but for death before age 60, or were a reserve component member activated for federal service
  • You are the veteran, or a spouse or dependent qualifying through the veteran, with dependent children limited to unmarried children under 21, under 23 if a full-time student at an approved school, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
