Every Arkansas National Guard member gets $1,000 of life insurance coverage free of charge through the National Guard Association of Arkansas, and new members get $10,000 of free coverage for their first year. Beyond that you can buy $10,000 to $270,000 of coverage, with premiums deducted from drill pay and held flat until age 70. There is no war, aviation, hazardous duty or civilian occupation exclusion, coverage runs 24 hours a day year round, claims are paid within 24 hours, and you can convert the policy in full when you leave the Guard without proving insurability. Spouse and children policies open up after your first year of coverage.
