Arkansas State Employment Veterans Hiring Preference

Arkansas Department of Shared Administrative Services, Office of Personnel Management
5 or 10 points added to passing examination scores, plus preference in promotion and retention

Arkansas gives veterans preference in hiring, promotion and retention for state jobs. When a test is used, 5 points are added to the passing scores of veterans, surviving spouses of deceased veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and surviving spouses of deceased Guard or Reserve members. 10 points are added for disabled veterans and for the spouse of a disabled veteran who cannot take the position because of the disability. If no test score is used, the hiring authority has to show how the preference was applied. If you were eligible and not selected, you can ask for your base score, your adjusted score and the successful candidate’s score, and for the documentation showing how the interview list and selection were made.
