California Recovering Service Member Sport Fishing and Hunting Licenses

Sport fishing license for $10.54 or hunting license for $9.79

If you are serving in an active or reserve component and are getting outpatient medical treatment or therapy while recovering from a serious service-connected injury or illness, you can buy a reduced fee sport fishing license for $10.54 or a hunting license for $9.79.

How to apply

Prequalify first by sending your documentation to the Department of Fish and Wildlife: upload it through the online license sales site, mail it to a license sales office, fax it to 916-419-7585, or request a secure upload by emailing LRB@wildlife.ca.gov. Then buy the license online, at a license sales office or from a license agent.

What you'll need

A letter from your commanding officer or a military medical doctor verifying your eligibility, your driver license, your GO ID number, a phone number, and proof of hunter education for a hunting license.

Eligibility

  • You are serving in an active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You are receiving medical treatment or therapy as an outpatient while recovering from a serious service-connected injury or illness
  • You have a letter from your commanding officer or a military medical doctor verifying your eligibility
  • You have a GO ID number from the California online license system
