California State Employee Salary Differential Pay for Federal Active Duty in Support of the War on Terror

Difference between military pay and state salary for up to 760 days, with benefits continued up to 730 days

If you are a California state employee in a reserve component and were ordered to federal active duty after September 11, 2001 in support of the War on Terror, the state pays you the difference between your military pay and your state salary. Hazardous duty pay, hostile fire pay and imminent danger pay are not counted. You can receive the differential for up to 760 days total. You stay eligible for general, labor market, merit and special in-grade salary adjustments, you can keep health, dental and vision coverage for up to 730 calendar days, and vacation and sick leave keep accruing for up to 24 months.

Give your department’s human resources office your federal active duty orders and ask for war or national emergency leave with salary differential pay.

Your federal active duty orders and your military Leave and Earnings Statements showing your military pay.
