California state employees serving in a reserve component get paid state salary for the first 30 days of military leave. There are four types: short-term leave for six months or less, long-term leave when you are ordered to active duty for six months or more, emergency leave when the California National Guard is ordered to state active duty, and war or national emergency leave when you are ordered to federal active duty.
Give your department’s human resources office a copy of your military orders and request the type of military leave that matches them.
Your orders for training or active duty, and your length-of-service record with the state.
