California State Employment Veterans' Hiring Preference

California Department of Human Resources (CalHR)
Top ranking on the eligibility list after a passing examination score

If you pass the civil service examination for a state job, veterans preference puts you at the top of the resulting eligibility list. It applies only to open, non-promotional applications, and you stop getting it once you reach permanent civil service status.
