How to apply

Apply to your local county assessor, not the state, between January 1 and July 1 of the year you qualify.

What you'll need

Your VA letter showing a 100 percent permanent service-connected or individual unemployability rating, or, for a surviving spouse, proof of the Department of Defense death gratuity or your DIC award. You also need proof you owned and lived in the home on January 1.

Eligibility

  • You owned and lived in the property as your primary residence on January 1 of the year you claim the exemption
  • You are an honorably discharged veteran with a 100 percent permanent service-connected disability rating or an individual unemployability rating from the VA, or the surviving spouse of a service member who died in the line of duty and received a Department of Defense death gratuity, or the surviving spouse of a veteran who died from a service-connected injury or disease and who receives Dependency and Indemnity Compensation
