Colorado National Guard Workers’ Compensation Coverage for State Active Duty

Medical coverage and compensation under the Colorado Workers’ Compensation Act

If you are hurt, become ill or disabled, or die while serving on state active duty with the Colorado National Guard, you and your family are covered for medical care and compensation under the Colorado Workers’ Compensation Act. The coverage does not pay when similar benefits are already provided under federal law.

How to apply

Report the injury or illness through your chain of command and file a workers’ compensation claim through the Colorado National Guard. Survivors should contact the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

What you'll need

Your state active duty orders, a line of duty determination, and your medical records for the injury or illness. For a death claim, the death certificate and proof of your relationship.

Eligibility

  • You are a Colorado National Guard service member, or the survivor of one
  • The injury, illness, disability or death occurred while serving on state active duty
  • You are not already receiving similar benefits under federal law or regulation
