Colorado adds points to your passing score on competitive examinations for state employment. Five points go to veterans honorably discharged from active duty other than for training during a declared or undeclared war or other armed hostilities against an armed foreign enemy, or when a campaign medal was authorized, and to certain surviving spouses. Ten points go to honorably discharged veterans with a service-connected disability who receive compensation or disability retirement benefits. The preference does not apply to promotions.
Claim the preference when you apply for a state job through the Colorado state careers site, and attach your supporting documents.
Your DD214, plus your VA disability award or disability retirement documentation if you are claiming 10 points, or your marriage certificate and the veteran’s death documentation if you are claiming as a surviving spouse.
