Colorado State Parks Independence Pass for Disabled Veterans and Purple Heart Recipients

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW)
Free annual pass to all Colorado State Parks, plus a $3 per night camping discount if you are 64 or older

Eligible disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients get a free annual Independence Parks Pass giving unlimited access to every Colorado State Park. If you are 64 or older, the pass also gets you $3 off camping per night Sunday through Thursday, though not on Fridays, weekends or holidays and not for cabins or yurts.

How to apply

Email your application and documents to disability.apps@state.co.us, or send them in person or by mail to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Attn: Independence Pass, 6060 Broadway, Denver CO 80216.

What you'll need

A letter from the VA stating you were honorably discharged and are receiving compensation for a qualifying disability, or a Purple Heart certificate or DD214 showing the Purple Heart, plus a valid Colorado driver licence or ID card.

Eligibility

  • You have lived in Colorado for six consecutive months before applying and hold a valid Colorado driver licence or ID card
  • You are honorably discharged and receive VA compensation for a disability rating of 50 percent or more, combined across multiple ratings, or for loss of use of one or both hands or feet, or for permanent loss of vision in both eyes, or you received the Purple Heart
