If you are hurt, become ill or are disabled in the line of duty while serving on state active duty with the West Virginia National Guard, the state pays for all the medical care you need. If you cannot go back to your regular job, the state keeps paying you until you can return to work.

Report the injury or illness through your chain of command and ask your unit to start a line of duty determination and a state active duty compensation claim.

What you'll need

Your state active duty orders, a line of duty determination, your medical records for the injury or illness, and documentation of your regular civilian earnings if you cannot return to work.

Eligibility

  • You are a West Virginia National Guard service member
  • You were injured, became ill or became disabled in the line of duty
  • You were serving on state active duty at the time
