If you are licensed on a military vehicle similar to a commercial vehicle, Connecticut will exempt you from the commercial driver license driving skills test. You still have to pass all of the knowledge testing. Your driving record must be clean: no more than one licence other than a military licence, no suspended, revoked or cancelled licence, no disqualifying major offense convictions, no more than one disqualifying serious traffic violation, and no at-fault accident or traffic conviction arising from an accident.
Apply through the Connecticut DMV with the completed Connecticut Application for Military Skills Test Waiver, including your commander’s endorsement, and the Application for Connecticut Commercial Driver’s License, which you have to request from the DMV.
Your licence history for the past 10 years, a valid REAL ID Connecticut driver’s license, a valid military vehicle operator licence, your military ID card or DD214 if you separated recently, a medical certification dated within two years from an examiner on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners, your self-certification of the type of commercial driving, the Application for Waiver of Driver’s License Fee Because of Active Service, your Social Security card or proof of the number, and evidence you drove a similar military vehicle for at least two years immediately before discharge.
