Two sets of free license plates and special registration certificates

Medal of Honor recipients and former prisoners of war get two sets of free license plates and special registration certificates for passenger vehicles, campers or commercial vehicles. An unremarried surviving spouse can keep the plates and certificates free for life, or until they remarry.

What you'll need

Documentation that you received the Medal of Honor or were a prisoner of war, or, if you are the surviving spouse, your marriage certificate and the veteran’s death certificate.

Eligibility

  • You received the Medal of Honor, you are a former prisoner of war, or you are the unremarried surviving spouse of one
  • You have a passenger vehicle, camper or commercial vehicle registered in Connecticut
