Connecticut adds points to your passing score on competitive state hiring examinations. You get 10 points if you are an honorably discharged disabled veteran who served during a recognized time of war and are eligible for or receiving VA disability compensation, if you are the spouse of a disabled veteran who cannot work because of that disability, or if you are the surviving spouse of a veteran who qualified for the 10 point preference. You get 5 points if you are an honorably discharged veteran who served during a recognized time of war and are not eligible for VA compensation or receiving a pension.
Claim the preference when you apply for Connecticut state employment and submit your supporting documents with the application.
Your DD214, plus your VA disability award letter, marriage certificate or the veteran’s death certificate depending on which preference you are claiming.
