Connecticut Veterans, National Guard Service Members and Dependent Tuition Waiver

Connecticut public colleges and universities, through the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system
100 percent tuition waiver for fall and spring, 50 percent for summer and intersession, at Connecticut State Universities

Connecticut public colleges and universities waive tuition for eligible veterans, Connecticut National Guard members and certain dependents. At a Connecticut State University campus you get a 100 percent tuition waiver for fall and spring semesters and a 50 percent waiver for summer and intersession courses, undergraduate or graduate. Connecticut community colleges waive tuition for full-time or part-time study, but not for summer, intersession or extension fund courses. Charter Oak State College waives 50 percent of course fees. The waiver does not cover books, student activity fees, course fees, parking, or room and board.

Contact the financial aid office at the Connecticut public college or university you attend or plan to attend and ask for the veterans tuition waiver.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing an honorable discharge and your qualifying wartime service, proof of Connecticut residency, current Connecticut National Guard membership proof if you are serving, or casualty documentation and proof of your relationship if you are applying as a dependent or surviving spouse.

Eligibility

  • You are a Connecticut resident
  • You are an honorably discharged veteran who served at least 90 cumulative days of active duty during a recognized time of war (or served less because you were separated for a service-connected disability, or because the war, campaign or operation lasted less than 90 days and you served for its duration), an active member of the Connecticut National Guard, the resident child or surviving spouse of a resident service member killed in action on or after September 11, 2001, or the resident child of a service member declared missing in action or a prisoner of war after January 1, 1960
  • You are enrolled at a Connecticut public college or university
