$200,000 paid in $40,000 annual installments, plus four years of tuition assistance and health coverage to age 26 for surviving children

Delaware pays $200,000 to the beneficiary of a Delaware National Guard member who dies while serving on state active duty, in $40,000 annual installments. The state also pays four years of college or university tuition assistance for the member’s surviving children, and covers those children on health insurance until they turn 26 unless they are covered by a federal health insurance program.

Survivors should contact the Delaware National Guard, and the Delaware Office of Veterans Services at 302-739-2792, to start the claim.

What you'll need

The service member’s state active duty orders, the death certificate, a line of duty determination, and proof of your relationship to the service member.

Eligibility

  • You are the named beneficiary or a surviving child of a Delaware National Guard service member
  • The service member died while serving on state active duty
