Burial for veterans and eligible family members at two state cemeteries

Delaware has two state veterans cemeteries that provide a final resting place for veterans and their eligible family members, and both take casketed and cremated remains. They are at 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear DE 19701, phone 302-834-8046, and 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro DE 19966, phone 302-934-5653.

How to apply

Submit the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemeteries application for burial to the cemetery you want, or ask your funeral director to. You can also contact the Delaware Office of Veterans Services at 302-739-2792.

What you'll need

The veteran’s DD214 or other discharge paperwork, proof of Delaware residency, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for a family member burial.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged after at least 180 days of active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or Reserves and are eligible for military retired pay or would have been except for death before age 60, or were a reserve component member activated for 180 days of federal service
  • You were a Delaware resident at the time of death, for three or more years which need not be consecutive, or when you entered the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Your spouse and dependent children qualify through you, with dependent children limited to unmarried children under 21, under 23 if a full-time student at an approved institution, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
