Delaware Veterans Opportunity Credit

10 percent of wages, up to $1,500, for the hire year and the next two tax years

An employer who hires a qualified veteran can claim a Delaware tax credit of 10 percent of the veteran’s wages, up to $1,500, for the year the veteran is hired and for the two following tax years. A qualified veteran is someone who served in a hostile environment, such as Iraq or Afghanistan.

How to apply

The employer claims the credit on the Delaware tax return for the year the veteran is hired and the two following years. Contact Delaware Division of Revenue or the Office of Veterans Services if you need the current claim form.

What you'll need

The employee’s proof of qualifying hostile-environment service and the employer’s wage records for that employee.

Eligibility

  • You served in a hostile environment such as Iraq or Afghanistan
  • An employer is claiming the credit for wages paid to you, or you are an employer who hired a veteran meeting that test
