Non-competitive hiring into time-limited District Career Service jobs at grade 12 and below

District government agencies can hire you without competition from a talent pool open only to veterans and their spouses. The jobs are time-limited Career Service appointments at grade 12 and below, and when the appointment ends you may be able to compete for a permanent Career Service position.

How to apply

Register through the Washington, D.C. Department of Human Resources Careers for Veterans webpage, pick a hiring group that matches your interests, complete the questionnaire and upload the documents it asks for. For help, call 202-442-9700 or email dchr.policy@dc.gov.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing 180 or more consecutive days of service and an honorable or general discharge, or, if you are applying as a spouse, your marriage certificate with the veteran’s VA rating letter or the service member’s casualty documentation.

Eligibility

  • You are a Washington, D.C. resident
  • You served in the U.S. Armed Forces for 180 consecutive days or more and received an honorable or general discharge, or you are the spouse of a veteran with a disability rating of 30 percent or more from the VA, or you are the unremarried surviving spouse of a service member killed in the line of duty while on active duty
