Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Reduced Fare Program for Veterans with Disabilities

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)
50 percent off Metrorail, Metrobus and the seven-day regional bus pass

If the VA rates you 60 percent or more disabled, you ride for half price on Metrorail and Metrobus, get 50 percent off the seven-day regional bus pass, and get discounted fares on participating local bus services. The list of participating bus providers changes.

How to apply

Apply in person at the Metro Transit Accessibility Center, 655 Virginia Avenue SW, Washington, D.C. 20024, or at the TRIPS Commuter Store, 8404 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Fill in Part A of the reduced fare application only; Parts B and C do not apply to you. For help, email eligibility@wmata.com or call 202-962-2700 and select option 1, or TTY 202-962-2033.

What you'll need

A valid photo ID and your VA Benefit Summary Letter showing a disability rating of 60 percent or more.

Eligibility

  • You have a disability rating of 60 percent or more from the VA
  • You apply in person at the Metro Transit Accessibility Center in Washington, D.C. or the TRIPS Commuter Store in Silver Spring, Maryland
