East Tennessee State Veterans Cemeteries in Knoxville

Tennessee Department of Veterans Services (TDVS)
No fee for burial, the grave marker, grave opening and closing, or perpetual care

You can be buried at no cost at either of the two state veterans cemeteries in Knoxville, at 5901 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville TN 37919 and at 2200 E. Gov. John Sevier Highway 168, Knoxville TN 37920, phone 865-577-3228. Each provides a burial plot, opening and closing of the grave, a government-provided grave marker including installation, and perpetual care. Columbarium services for cremated remains are available at the Gov. John Sevier Highway site but not at the Lyons View Pike site. All other funeral expenses are the responsibility of you, your family or your estate.

How to apply

Complete the East Tennessee online pre-registration form before there is a need, so eligibility is established in advance. You can also email ETSV.Cemetery@tn.gov or call 865-577-3228.

What you'll need

The veteran’s DD214 or other discharge paperwork, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for a family member burial.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty service in the U.S. Armed Forces under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or the U.S. Armed Forces Reserves and qualified for military retired pay or would have qualified except that death occurred before age 60, or were a reserve component member activated for federal service
  • Your spouse and dependent children qualify through you, with dependent children limited to unmarried children under age 21, under age 23 if a full-time student at an approved educational institution, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
