Extension of Alaska Driver Licenses for Service Members and Their Spouses

License stays valid until 90 days after discharge or your return to Alaska

If you are an Alaska resident service member stationed outside Alaska, your Alaska driver license and your spouse’s stay valid until 90 days after your discharge, or until you return to Alaska, whichever comes first. You can print a Military Expiration Endorsement to carry as proof the license is still valid.

There is nothing to file with the DMV. Print the Military Expiration Endorsement and carry it with your expired license.

What you'll need

Your Alaska driver license, the printed Military Expiration Endorsement, and your orders showing you are stationed outside Alaska.

Eligibility

  • You are an Alaska resident serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and stationed outside Alaska, or the spouse of one
  • You hold an Alaska driver license
