Florida Active Duty Service Member Death Benefit

Florida Department of Military Affairs, Florida National Guard
$75,000 death benefit

Florida pays a $75,000 death benefit to the beneficiaries of an active duty service member killed in the line of duty. It is on top of Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance and any other federal payment. The money goes to whoever is designated on the DD1300 Report of Casualty; if no one is designated, it goes to the surviving spouse and children in equal shares, then to surviving parents, then to the service member’s estate. A deceased service member’s dependents may also qualify for the Florida tuition waiver for surviving spouses and children.
