Florida Commercial Driver License Skills Test Waiver

Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV)
CDL skills test waived

Florida waives the skills test part of the commercial driver license exam if you have been licensed for at least two years on a military vehicle similar to the commercial class you want. You still have to take the knowledge test. If you have left the service, you must apply within one year of an honorable discharge.

How to apply

Submit the completed Florida Certification for Waiver of CDL Skills Test for Military Personnel, including your commanding officer’s certification, at your local county tax collector’s office or FLHSMV driver license service center.

What you'll need

The completed waiver certification signed by your commanding officer, proof you have been licensed at least two years on a similar military vehicle, and your DD214 if you have been discharged.

Eligibility

  • You have been licensed for at least two years on a military vehicle similar to the commercial vehicle class you are applying for
  • If you have left the service, you were honorably discharged within one year of your application
  • You have never held more than one licence, other than a military licence, and have never had a licence suspended, revoked or cancelled
  • You have no convictions for the disqualifying major offenses in 49 CFR 383.51(b) and no more than one conviction for the serious traffic violations in 49 CFR 383.51(c)
  • You have no conviction for a military, state or local traffic control violation resulting from a traffic accident, and no record of an at-fault accident
