Florida Driver License Extension for Service Members and Their Dependents Assigned Outside Florida

Free military extension card keeping your Florida licence valid while stationed away

If you are stationed outside Florida, you and the immediate family living with you can extend your Florida Class E driver license. You apply for a free military extension card, which you carry with your Florida licence and military ID. The extension stays valid until 90 days after you leave active duty, until you move back to Florida, or until you get a new licence or ID card from Florida or another state. You can also renew online through the MyDMV Portal within 18 months of expiry.

How to apply

Complete the FLHSMV Military Personnel and Dependents Affidavit certifying your active duty status and that you are stationed outside Florida, then email it with a copy of your orders to MilitaryID@flhsmv.gov, fax it to 850-617-5034, or mail it to Bureau of Credentialing Services, 2900 Apalachee Parkway, MS 92, Tallahassee, FL 32399.

What you'll need

A copy of the service member’s current military orders and the completed Military Personnel and Dependents Affidavit.

Eligibility

  • You hold a Florida Class E driver license
  • You are a service member stationed outside Florida, or the spouse or child living with one
  • You carry the military extension card with your Florida licence and military ID
