Florida Local Business Tax Exemption for Veterans, Spouses of Veterans and Service Members

Local Florida city and county business tax offices, under state law
Full exemption from local business taxes and fees under Chapter 205

You do not pay the local business taxes and fees that Florida cities and counties charge under Chapter 205 of the Florida Statutes. Honorably discharged veterans, their spouses and unremarried surviving spouses, and spouses of active duty service members stationed in Florida all qualify.

How to apply

Claim the exemption with the city or county office that issues your local business tax receipt when you register or renew your business.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing an honorable discharge, or your marriage certificate plus the service member’s proof of service or stationing orders if you are claiming as a spouse.

Eligibility

  • You are operating a business in Florida that would otherwise owe a local business tax
  • You are an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, the spouse or unremarried surviving spouse of an eligible veteran, or the spouse of an active duty service member stationed in Florida
