If you received the Purple Heart or a combat decoration superior in precedence to it, Florida waives your tuition at a state career center, a Florida College System institution or a state university for up to 110 percent of the hours your degree or certificate requires. The waiver covers tuition only, not textbooks, housing or food. Decorations superior in precedence include the Medal of Honor, the Navy Cross, Air Force Cross and Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star.
Contact the academic institution you plan to attend and submit your award documentation to them. There is no central state application.
Documents showing you received the Purple Heart or a superior combat decoration, and proof that you are a Florida resident for tuition purposes.
