Free Louisiana Hunting and Fishing Licenses for Disabled Veterans

Free hunting and fishing licenses plus a Wildlife Management Area Access Permit

You get free recreational hunting and fishing licenses if the VA rates your service-connected disability as permanent at 50 percent or more. The package covers Basic and Saltwater Fishing licenses, Basic, Deer, Waterfowl and Turkey Hunting licenses, and a Wildlife Management Area Access Permit. Residents and nonresidents both qualify, and you can also order a free durable hard card.

How to apply

Send or bring the completed disabled veteran license application to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at 2000 Quail Drive in Baton Rouge, or mail it to Attention: Sports Licenses, PO Box 98000, Baton Rouge LA 70898, or email lifetime@wlf.la.gov. For questions, call 225-765-2887.

What you'll need

A completed application, a copy of your driver’s license or ID card, and a copy of your VA Benefit Summary Letter. If you cannot get the letter, a Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs service office can certify your application instead.

Eligibility

  • You have a permanent service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or more from the VA
  • You submit a completed application with a copy of your driver’s license or ID card and your VA Benefit Summary Letter, or have the application certified by a Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs service office
